Cool Otis Deals...where the cool meets the Otis...now in Menthol |

July 02 Welcome back SUSPICIOUS Cool OtisWell, actually, I have been here but it's been hectic at the very least. I've been pounding out coins and also got on a new schedule for now....rising early and exercising for and hour and a half, then helping the contractors I have over here, and then getting into the shop. So I've been falling asleep during prime blogging hours.
Anyway, I have 22 sets of the copper Triple Threats within a couple days of being completed, and as I stated, I am making all half dollar stuff for a while until all those orders are finished. The Buddha Revenge sets will start production next week in both dollar and half dollar size.
Here's where Cool Oti becomes Nervous Elk and damned suspicous.....
Meet Hank Miller... if his picture doesn't come through...here he is. Looking at his profile, it seems he is basically just on Magic Cafe to promote Bob Kohler products. Anyway, about 2 months ago, a guy from Colorado Springs named Gary Klatt called me and told me he had some Schoolcraft junk and wanted to replace it. He asked if he could stop by and I said yes. So, he shows up with the man I recognize here.....Hank Miller. I thought Hank sounded or looked familiar, but he said no. (I should mention that around last winterish, rumor was that Bob Kohler was making late night statements about taking over the coin gaffing industry...blah blah.) Hank and Gary spent a while in the shop looking around. You know, I have had some of my prototypes show up in another camp more than once. I won't go into detail but you can guess the usual suspects and the fact that they visited me and spent time in my shop. So far, I have been pretty careless about inviting strangers into my shop to have a look see. I like to invite and meet people, but this little incident has made me a bit paranoid about inviting people I don't know into the shop area. I had another guy a while back that was going to fly in just to see me for a day...that I had never heard of, and he was being a bit pushy so I avoided him like the plague. I just had a guy show up out of the blue on Saturday....from Mississippi, with his lovely wife Hilda. His name was Ed Hands and the name on he and his wife's magic business card was "The Entertaining Hands" ...which I loved. I got a good feeling from Ed and his wife, they seemed a lovely couple, and I was happy to show them around based on intuition. Now I have a customer that I am sure that I would trust wanting to bring 7 of his SAM members for a tour. You know, that would be great, I'd like to do that and meet some new guys, but I think Hank is going to make me rethink about inviting total strangers over here to see the operation. Anyone that knew what he was looking for could probably find it here. If they were clever enough to take pictures, that could be near infiltration. It's a shitty thing to know what lengths some people will go, and how they may ruin it for people that I would like to meet. Ah, the magic business... Thoughts? Comments?
June 26 Almost time to imbibe, but first.....Friday Night Barbers to kick off the weekend....Here are 8 Barber expanded shell sets. As you can see, all the coins are awesome, near full rim, and very good patina. $190 each. The shell is on top of each stack. Barbers are the most difficult of all coins to achieve a shell that is entirely void of all stress tells. All of these very sturdy shells, when held in the right light, will show a minute amount of these stress areas to the trained eye. Starting with coins of this quality though... that have a nice thick edge to expand and great patina... these stress areas are kept very minimal or entirely invisible to the non-trained eye. It's the best I can do on these Mathew Clifton, but what I've got here represents years of screwing around to get them this good. Yes, even Mathew would proudly display these on a sunny day in the park. How do you like the display on the piece of black palm wood? Can't bring myself to use my signature blue dice anymore since fuckwad Magikoins ripped that off. Oh well....change is good.....maybe he doesn't have any black palm. Get ready to be barraged with half dollar stuff now for a while. I've just spent over $4000 on halves, but I have everything....a nice stash. I have guys that have been waiting half a lifetime for half dollar gaffs, so you guys are finally getting taken care of and there should be plenty more to go around. Next batch of copper triple threats is nearing completion also and revenging buddha sets are being roughed. Have a great time at the saturday farmer's market everyone. I'll be in line for the portabella green chile smothered veggie or bean tamales and a large cap.....that should get things moving at warp speed.
June 25 Bag O' BarbersJune 23 Finding my time.....for my pals and cherished customers.........thanks for finding your time to look here at this mostly happy horseshit....but the coins are good..... I think this is what I have left out of the last clean out. Pristine 1921 shell set, milled edge brass Miracle Enjoyment set, and Kennedy karate coin.
...and I have 3 nice mag Ramsay stacks @ 175 each.
GET READY FOR REVENGE OF THE BUDDHA SETS! COMING SOON AND WE KNOW IT WILL ONLY TAKE NEIGHBORS A FEW DAYS TO GET A COUPLE DOZEN ROUTINES TOGETHER.....NOT 6 YEARS. June 22 I AM IRONY MAN...DADADADA DA DA DA DAFind Your TimePosted by admin on May 12, 2009 in Uncategorized
For me sometimes the key to making new gaffs is very simple. It’s just finding the time to make the gimmicks while keeping up with the current workload. Well eu h a simple thing is not easy. But I have definitely come to realize it’s definitely something I just have to do. Projects like this blog, the iPhone version of my site, a new online shopping experience and more would not even be possible if I didn’t follow my new rule of just “finding your time”. Even more important is just making the time if you don’t find it. Until next time, take care everyone, and we will talk again soon! June 18 Kahlhoffer inspired deluxe coin setOne of my customers, the man I will buy my Ford from when I visit Austria, ordered from that last offering....the copper chinatown set and a set of the milled brass miracle enjoyment coins. When I was cleaning these sets up, I found that the brass chinese shell fit perfectly over the copper side of the chinatown coin. Now you can show that coin as a silver dollar, as a brass chinese coin, as a copper chinese coin, or as a copper AND a brass chinese coin...or as a brass chinese and a silver dollar....two coins. I played with ideas for about 3 hours last night. Employing the matching ungaffed coins, I think we have another winner that will yield infinite possibilities of handlings.
Just looking at these 3 pictures you will start to see alot of the possibilities right away. This may short circuit Neighbors' brain...don't tell him about it. I'll think of a name post hastily before someone else does. This is about exactly what it seems like around here sometimes...Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
Then, I head down the hall trying to June 16 What's on the shelf and still lying around here...In left column....2 brass miracle enjoyment shell sets...milled edges...160 each, karate coin....23
In middle column...2 reg and 2 darkened half dollar size miracle enjoyment shell sets....sale 90 each
in right column...1921 uncirculated Morgan expanded shell set....300, Kennedy C/S...$60, 1921 Morgan chinatown set....160, and 4 of the ss sets with extra coins...90 each
That is all. 2 brass non-magnetic milled edge Chinese nests of 3Here's another incriminating photo for your hard drive Mattie. There are some tiny specs of paper towell present that showed up in the pic. You are getting itchy....itchy....very itchy from looking at this picture Mattie.
The last coin is made from 2 coins so I could get it flush inside the 2nd shell. I have 100 of these coins that were made thinner, but they weren't quite thin enough for these sets. I had a custom request for one of these sets, so I made a couple extra. I want $200 each for them.
Mathew Clifton Special OfferingsTop picture is an unexpanded shell set with additional locking sliding shell. $425.
Middle picture is an expanded soft Morgan set. $300.
And finally for Mr. Mathew Lawrence O Frank Kohler Trono Dildo Schooltool Wayne.... a macro shot of the expanded shell with no glare. This is a huge file, so if you would like me to send you a picture that you can blow up to room size, drop me an email and I will send it over for your scrutinizing pleasure
May 22 Sam had a slipadictomyThese have been selling out each time, so here's 10 more. Same combo sets as before and still $90. All are well worn walkers. This is the end of the South African pennies. I have one roll left that I am saving for other stuff. These were the perfect size, a tad larger diameter than all the other varieties of pennies. May 20 Guess who's coming to dinner....21 sets of beautifully matched, long awaited, soft Morgan Triple Threats...that who. Talked to Troy today. I will have plenty of notes in a few days. He said the material in the book was ALL good, and that he liked really everything in there. Sounds great. I'm actually psyched for this because I haven't seen any of the new material. Troy also related a small anecdote that I hadn't heard. Seems many moons ago, he taught a special cut to someone and went over it with him move by move at a convention. And believe it or not, a couple years later that special someone published it as his own and became rather famous for the cut. Troy is too mellow, and little did we know. May 18 U3F18's ARE HERE!!!Still Have the 2 cheaper sets left. I have this one set with 4 remilled uncirculated coins, unexpanded shell, and locking sliding shell. $425. I also have 2 original sets made with uncirc 1921 morgans. These sets have just one coin remilled to fit the gaffus and come with 2 ungaffed matching coins. $250 each. And I have this one set with soft morgans with all 3 coins remilled to fit the gaff. $300.
WORD....from Tams and Troy baby on the New Triple Threat Book!Todd,
Here is info for you to put up on the blog that at least lets the fraternity know what kind of timeline is out there. Then if anyone sends me notes on the information, I'll just refer them to your blog. I'll be anxious to see the replies on the blog on this info. Also, I'll try to get a pic to you later in the week.
Here ya' go . . .
Back in 2004, Troy Hooser began performing with the Triple Threat Coin Gimmick. A 37 page manuscript on basic handling and 5 routines was released with the purchase of the Triple Threat Coin Gimmick from Todd Lassen in 2005. This book was written and illustrated by Mark Tams.
A couple of years ago, the Triple Threat Coin Book took on a new perspective. First, Mark decided the 28 illustrations were substandard and decided to upgrade the illustrations. Second, new routines were being introduced with the Triple Threat by other performers. Each performer seemed to use the Triple Threat in a different way and it was obvious this material needed to be added to the book.
So, the book took a on a new objective by expanding new routines, concepts and ideas of other performers. These additions by many top coin performers allowed the book to come closer to a complete works piece on the Triple Threat Coin Gimmick. Although this would be impossible to do because of the limitless possibilities with the Triple Threat, it definitely comes closer to providing the magic community with top notch material associated with the Triple Threat.
Mark has a passion for producing material in print at a certain level. Because of this, this project has taken quite some time to produce to a final stage. Over the last couple of years, the fraternity has heard of the additions to the book and that the book would be released in the future. Many Triple Threat users and future users have been asking the question . . . “when is the book going to be available?”
So, here is an update of when you can begin to look for the material to be released and available: 5/17/09 – 95% of all of the 125+ pages of material has been written as well as the layout/design. The final writings are being completed currently. Of the 70+ illustrations to be re-done, over 50% of them have been completed. Each day, a few more are completed.
The book has been proof read twice by both Troy and Mark. Troy’s response after seeing the entire book in proof form the first time was, “fantastic material that is worth the wait!” Troy will be traveling through to visit Mark on 6/15/09 and they will be giving the material one more once over. At that point, it is hopeful the book will be completed and a release date with all of the pertinent information on ordering will be available. So, thanks to everyone for their patience on this project and we hope the material will be “worth the wait!”
And I will add....If the new book comes near or in contact with the blatant knockoff 3CM, it will immediately self destruct mission impossible style.

May 15 Hey, What's a penny made of?? (as the cop walks by)..."Cheap Copper!"This AIN'T cheap copper. Ok, these have been in the making for months. And finally they are ready with the exception of polishing and hallmarking. This was one of those projects that just kept getting more and more expensive and taking longer and longer than anticipated. Anyway, I only have 20 sets of the 3 boxes, and that is the way I am going to sell them because I have 20 boxes of each. Standard Okito, slot box, and Boston box. I doubt there will be any more like these. These are super heavy, solid high grade copper boxes with big radius's on all the outside corners for ultra smooth and massively manly handling. They will turn an awesome dark copper penny color with a bit of handling, and I speculate that these are going to be the coolest looking okito boxes ever made after they've been handled for a good long time. You might get them to turn green too. Well, anyway...I'm impressed. I'm going to ask $300 for a set of the 3 boxes and the truth is I should ask twice that for the time and materials invested this time. I'm guessing I still have another 15 hours of polishing or so. Remember that old Zappa lyric that went.....she can push, she can shove till it's just a nub? Well, we are talking nubby fingers by the time these are done.
May 13 Stuff is Coming and stuff is shipping. Thanks for your patience.Been away from the computer. Checking the Schooltool blog I see he is pushing forward. Coins are being minted AND he has new crowns in. Nice. Seriously..Congrats to him. It's nice that I can see what he is up to, in the same way I'm sure he has been able to keep up over here at Oti's Emporium.
Remember these coins?
I had posted a bunch of pictures of these crowns here on my blog last year. They are beautifully minted. I found the direct source for a bunch of these and liked them a lot. The price was very good. I still stay in contact with the guy that mints them in England. But thus far I have held off on using them for a couple of reasons.
Well, LOW AND BEHOLD, HOLY DEEDUS....here are the same coins.....
Direct from his blog....Just shipped to Schooltool. I wonder if he bought them direct from the same guy? I found this guy by strange circumstance actually, so I would be curious. Anyway, it's like EACH time I turn around to wipe my ass, here's this guy picking up on stuff I played with a long frigging time ago....er...it seems like that anyway.
Here's the deal on these coins. And this is a freebie, on me, Schooltool...
These coins are about 1/32 bigger than a silver dollar. Notice that the rim on the face of the coin is very thin before getting into the knurling. When you try to make a copper/silver coin out of this coin, for instance, that rim will be gone...and that coin will now look like a piece of shit. The faces of these coins are also higher than the rims, so they do not lie flat. Try rubbing a couple of them together...Noisier than 2 skeletons screwing in a closet, using a tin can for a rubber. No charge for that Schooltool. Hope you didn't buy like thousands of them. May 05 Uncle UnkysMay 01 Sammys' not so anticipated return....But I had promised these to more people than I could deliver last go round. All right, the good deals on these are over, sorry about that. I need to get $90 each for these sets, they were taking more time than I had thought. No way to speed through these, they each require alot of finessy handwork to get them right. If you consider bang for your buck, they still seem reasonable for that pricey Lassen shit, and it IS a 5 coin set. It took an entire roll of my last remaining South African Pennies to make 10 of these sets. You guys that wanted them last go round will still get them for the price offered at that time....if you want to be hard asses. The sets are the same as before. Slippery gaff, mating silver coin, and shaved down mating copper coin. Plus 2 ungaffed coppers so you can perform both the U3F and the U3F2 routines. I have 8 walker sets and 2 Barber.
April 24 HEYI just had a customer here buying one of these copper triple threats. I still had 5 sets that haven't been darkened yet and he wanted his left alone so it would match his UWC. So, in light of that, I am leaving the last 4 undarkened in case some one else might think the same way. Let me know.
